How we can help
Our aim is to be part of the goodness of good parenting.
We do this by providing ‘common sense’ advice, distilled from parents’ rich experiences and key scientific research.
Although our material is written for parents, it is also invaluable for everyone in the life of a baby or child – grandparents, brothers and sisters, and for use in the training and practice of Midwives, Health Visitors, and all other Early Years’ professionals; as well as Nursery and Primary Teachers.
The material is also designed for use in ‘Parenting Courses’ in Secondary Schools and Colleges – the ideal follow-on from the ‘Roots of Empathy’ programme, now running in an increasing number of Primary Schools.
Indeed, children start learning how to be gentle and caring parents from the moment they are born. This learning process continues through childhood, adolescence, and beyond.
As Frank Field MP (commissioned by the then British Prime Minister in 2010 to write the ‘Foundation Years’ parliamentary report) said:
“During a research programme in Secondary Schools in Manchester and Birkenhead, I asked pupils what they most wished they could be learning in school. The two things at the top of their wish list were:
- How to be good parents, and…
- How to develop the skills to make life-long friendships.”
Right from the Start believes that these two skills are inseparable.
